Nootka Sound, also referred to by many locals as "Gold River", is located on the rugged and picturesque west coast of Vancouver Island. In 1778 Captain James Cook proclaimed what is now British Columbia as British soil after landing near Bligh Island, inside Nootka Sound. After what must have been a long and harrowing ocean crossing at the time, the calm inside waters of Nootka Sound was likely a very welcome respite. Friendly Cove, located at the entrance to Nootka Sound, is the ancestral home of the Mowachants. They were the first to welcome Captain Cook and his crew upon his arrival. There is still a village there today with tours available for those who wish to explore.

More recently this area has become the première fishing vacation getaway for local Vancouver Island fishermen. For decades, boats from all over the Island gather here every summer to enjoy the "lake-like" calm inside inlet waters, the beautiful scenery, the wildlife and the unmatched quality fishing. Unlike more northern B.C. fishing destinations, Nootka Sound often offers up warm summer temperatures, t-shirts and shorts are often the normal attire. The best places are where you will always find the locals on their fishing vacations; Nootka Sound is such a place.

We are a long established and successful charter fishing company located on Southern Vancouver Island. We began operations back in 1986 and have become one of the most recognized, respected and recommended fishing charter companies in the area.

Rollie Rose, the owner and principle fishing guide, was born and raised in Victoria. He and his family boast four generations of local fishing experience. Rollie has over 37 years of personal local fishing experience dating back to around 1965 when he first started fishing in Sooke with his grandfather. His experience, knowledge, passion for fishing, motivated hard-working personality and healthy touch of competitiveness all help ensure a successful charter trip.

We are a mobile operation, following the fish so that the best results are always possible. We are not stuck in one location when the fish move elsewhere.

We are open year round and offer a variety of fishing charter options ranging from half-day and full-day fishing only trips to multi-day, all inclusive packages. We feature and promote very light tackle at all times and encourage responsible fishing practises including catch-and-release if the customer so wishes. Our boats are of the highest quality, built and designed for our west coast location. They are safe, warm and are kept clean and tidy.
